Have you followed the news in Loudoun County VA, where a girl was raped in the high school bathroom by a boy wearing a skirt? The attacks by transgender inmates that have occured in women prison systems? Seven sex attacks in women’s jails by transgender convicts | News | The Times.

I don’t think Rowling is attacking the trans community, but she points out the elephant in the room. Putting transgender convicts in women’s prisons. The downfall of women’s sports. Forcing girls to share their private spaces with men who identify, or claim to identify, as women.

As a biological woman, who’s looking out for me? I’ve defended transgender men and women in workplace settings. Everyone in that setting had passed background checks, and didn’t pose a hazard to anyone else. I’m sorry, but I’m not going to share a bathroom with men in public spaces. Four of my immediate family members have been raped. None of the perpetrators were charged or punished for it. Any woman who speaks up against the added risks to women when transgenders are incarcerated in a women’s prison are vilified, as Rowlings has been.
